At Levi's Crest

`
Levi's crest

The rocky crest of Levitunturi peaks at 531 meters

The crest of Levi Fell is windy, rocky and long. At some places it is steep; at others rounded.

Nothing grows near the summit. The wind and rocks create a very hostile environment. In fact there is nothing, save a communications tower, at the very top. Even in midwinter the rocks lay exposed, the wind having blown the snow further down the slopes.

Running on a north-south axis the crest extends over many meters.  At its highest point, it is 531 meters above sea level.  From the east side the final ascent is steep.  From the west, it is gentle with rolling plateaus just beneath the crest.

Walking on the top with snowshoes is difficult because of all the rocks.  The snowmobile trail must be carefully groomed to cover them. Roads stop at the last plateau.

Ski lifts, restaurants and other facilities are located just down from the crest  in more protected areas. A parking lot just below the top is also a very good location to watch aurora at night.
