Adam Whisnant and
Mary Magdalena Helms

Adam Whisnant was born in Lincoln Co., NC about 1769.  Adam died about 1857 in Cleveland Co., NC.  He moved his family from Lincoln to Rutherford County between 1820 and 1830, probably in the early part of the decade.
He married Mary Magdalena "Polly" Helms before 1790.  Mary was born in NC about 1768.  Mary died after 1860.  She was in the Polk Co., NC 1860 Census along with her son Absolum. Apparently she moved to live with him after Adam died in 1857.

Adam Whisnant and Mary Magdalena "Polly" Helms had the following children:

i. John Whisnant was born in NC about 1793.  John died about 1865.  He married  Elizabeth Carpenter in Lincoln Co., NC, 10 Jul 1813.
ii. Ann Whisnant was born before 1798.  Ann died before 1831 in NC.  She married  John Carpenter in Lincoln Co., NC, 31 May 1813.
iii. Adam Whisnant II was born 11 Apr 1797.  Adam died after 1870.  He married  Susannah Froneberger in Lincoln Co., NC, 4 Feb 1820.  He was living in Greenville Co., SC in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 censuses.
 +   iv.  David Whisnant was born 17 Apr 1800.
v. Philip Whisnant was born in NC about 1803.  Philip died after 1880.  He married  Nancy McCurry about 1823.
vi. Elizabeth Whisnant was born 4 Apr 1806.  Elizabeth died 26 Jan 1881 at 74 years of age.  She married  John Hauss in Rutherford Co., NC, 26 Jan 1822.
vii. Absolum Whisnant was born in NC about 1811.  Absolum died 1893 at 82 years of age.  He married  Amelia Thompson in Rutherford Co., NC, 10 Nov 1831.
