Mary Ann Elizabeth Coon
David Whisnant was born in Lincoln Co., NC 17 Apr 1800.  David died 24 Aug 1879 in Cleveland Co., NC, at 79 years of age.  His body was interred in Mt. Harmony Methodist Cemetery, Cleveland Co., NC.  
He married Mary Ann Elizabeth Coon in Lincoln Co., NC, 14 Feb 1821.  Maryann was born in NC about 1802.  Maryann was the daughter of George Coon and Elizabeth Asherbranner.  In the 1880 census, she was living with her son Albert and his wife Lizzie.  Mary died about 1903.
David and Maryann purchased a farm and large log house near present day Polkville, NC.  They "modernized" the house by covering the logs with clapboard and adding many rooms.  In the mid 1950s the house was restored to its original log structure by their great-grandson Clyde Whisnant.

David Whisnant and Maryann Elizabeth Coon had the following children:

i. Sally Whisnant was born in Cleveland Co., NC about 1823.  Sally died before 1853.  She married  William Crowder.  William was born in NC about 1818.
ii. George M. Whisnant was born in NC about 1824.  George died 3 Jan 1861 in Cleveland Co., NC, at 36 years of age.   He married  Margaret March.
iii. Elizabeth  Whisnant was born in Lincoln Co., NC 28 May 1828.  Betsy died 7 Feb 1877 at 48 years of age.   She married  Paul Hillard Grigg.  Their daughter Sarah E. Grigg  and granddaughter Vera Essie Grigg both were married to Richard C. Covington.
iv. Adam B. Whisnant was born in Cleveland Co., NC 6 Jun 1836.  Adam died 11 Apr 1910 at 73 years of age.  He married  Jane Williams.
v. Mary "Polly" Whisnant was born in NC 20 Jan 1838.  Mary died 22 Jan 1907 at 69 years of age.  She married  Robert Magness in Cleveland Co., NC, 3 Aug 1868.  Robert was born in NC 22 Aug 1817.  Robert was the son of Benjamin Magness and Nancy Walker.  Robert died 5 Oct 1894 at 77 years of age.  
vi.  Fligins Whisnant was born in NC about 1839.  Fligins died after 1860.
vii.  David D. "Little Davie" Whisnant was born in NC 11 Oct 1841.  David died 28 Aug 1915 in Independence Co., AR, at 73 years of age.  He married  Julia Anne Chitwood.  Julia was born in NC 3 Sep 1847.  Julia was the daughter of William Chitwood and Sarah "Sally" Magness.  Julia died 13 Dec 1900  at 53 years of age.
+      viii.   Albert Whisnant was born 12 May 1847.
