David Barrett Whisnant was born in Cleveland Co., NC 15 Mar 1877. Barrett Whisnant died 20 Feb 1966 in Cleveland Co., NC, at 88 years of age. His body was interred 1966 in Polkville Methodist Church Cem, Cleveland Co., NC.
Barrett was farmer with about 2,000 acres of land in northern Cleveland County. He loved to wander the farm and enjoy its beauty. When he was older, walking became more difficult so he rode his bicycle over the farm. For the Christmas when he was 80 he told his children what he wanted for Christmas -- a new bicycle! Besides the farm, Barrett also loved reading, especially history and biographies. For a while as a young man he had been a school teacher.
He married Lela Maude Eaker in NC, about 1899. Lela was born in Cleveland Co., NC 22 Jan 1883. Lela died 14 Oct 1937 in Cleveland Co., NC, at 54 years of age. Her body was interred Oct., 1937 in Polkville Methodist Church Cem, Cleveland Co., NC.

Cletus died 3 Aug 1981 in St. Louis, Missouri, at 82 years of age. His body was interred in Polkville, NC, Polkville Methodist Cemetery. Ola was a first grade teacher in Hickory and Casar.
