In 1937 Barrett's son Clyde purchased the house and 250 surrounding acres from his father. After the Second World War he and his wife Ruth began the restoration of the log house.
The antebellum additions were torn away and every log was numbered and taken down. After digging a basement and putting in a new foundation, each log was returned to it's place. This time, however, cement was used between the logs instead of the native white clay. The chimney was rebuilt using the original rock.
An attached kitchen, bathrooms and stairwell were added in stone. A flagstone terrace in back and a flagstone and log porch in the front completed the additions.
